This little guy is full of awesomeness!

Matcha - Full of antioxidants, will boost your energy levels, memory and concentration and is great to get you going. It also strengthens your cells, burns calories, detoxifies the body, strengthens the immune system and lowers cholesterol . Matcha contains one of the most powerful forms of anti-oxidants, it is definitely worth making this awesome powder part of your daily routine.

Wheatgrass Powder - We have all heard about wheatgrass, but wheatgrass is pretty fabulous. It is packed full of vitamins and contains over 90 minerals. It alkalises and helps to detox the body. Wheatgrass also contains up to 70% chlorophyll which is an important blood builder and helps to heal the body.

Slippery Elm - This herb has to be one of my absolute favourites. It lines your intestinal track helping the body to breakdown food and absorb nutrients. If you ever have a sore stomach, or find discomfort when you eat, have a teaspoon of slippery elm in a glass 30mins before your meal.

Peppermint Leaves - Wonderful and soothing for intestinal track. Helps with bloating, nausea and the breaking down of foods. Is also rich in vitamin and minerals.

300,000     Items

19/2/2016

Recently a dear colleague of mine sent me through an email. It was titled “What makes you happy?”
It’s opening line was the average household has 300,000 items! 300,000, that is an ridiculous number, as I started to think about it I started to count the number of items in the space around me, I counted nearly 150 items in view just while I was sitting at my kitchen table.
Well that was an eye opener! I had already made it a focus of mine to work towards removing all the the things superfluous in my life, our home, and our environment, and here I was with 150 items right in front of me!
Can you possibly imagine the amount of natural resource used to create these items, the tax on our planet, and when purchasing all we look at is the price, or the image it would create. If we were to really look at an items real value taking into account the use of natural resources and cost to the earth, the items value would be a whole lot more. Would we be willing to pay it, did we really want it that much?

Earlier in the year I made a conscious decision to not purchase items unless they fit into a few certain categories
  1. Does the item come from a source I could trace - meaning is it fair-trade
  2. Does the item contain harmful chemicals, dyes, fabrics, that could lead to health issues
  3. Is this item created from natural materials, it is recyclable
  4. Could I make it?
  5. Is this item good for my health
  6. Does this item bring me joy, and is this item enough for me, to love for a long time and worthy of a place in our home

As this is my purchasing guidelines, it is also my guide to letting things go.
I am continuing to remove things everyday, quite slowly, but it did take me a long time to accumulate all of these items, it is understandable it can take some time to remove them from my life. As I remove the item from my life, I try to find it a new home with someone who does need it.
There was a number of reasons for doing this.
  1. After spending such a long time being sick, I found it so hard to clean and to keep on top of home duties. I felt I was constantly drowning, I just needed the house to be clean, easy to tidy, so that when I did have that little bit of energy I could actually do something I enjoyed. However, when you are sick achieving this becomes a little bit of a dream, it is actually quite a strenuous activity.
  2. As I have continued to study and learn more and move into a more holistic lifestyle, I began to realise that the items we have inside our homes and in our life can be either positive, negative or neutral. Have you ever had an item where you pick it up, or put it on and it is like all the energy you have is somehow zapped. Or that you suddenly feel sad, frustrated, or you just can’t think clearly, if so, that item needs to go! On the flip side have you ever had an item where you hold it, look at it and your whole spirit picks up, beautiful joy, imagine creating a home filled with positive energy. Ofcourse there will be items that you feel really nothing for, but you still need them... currently…, when you don’t, just let them go. Every single object has the power to either support you and your environment in a positive way, or to bring you down. From personal experience I have to say that this is very much the case, and I am still on the journey of removing unnecessary things from my life. Unfortunately I need to be in one of those enlightened moods to really make a good dent, also it appears I married a hoarder, we will get here, but it most certainly is a long process, but each time it gets easier, and each time you let go of an item you get this funny little piece of joy. The important thing is not to over value items, at the end of the day they are just things, and if you feel that you couldn’t live without them, it’s a good time to stop and realise what it is you really value. It takes some practise but there is nothing more freeing than just letting go. The hardest part is we are bombarded by media constantly, everything that we are taught is that this item will make you happy, this item will make your family happier, images of that perfect family sitting and laughing, happiness? The truth is, no item will ever bring you true happiness, just a moment, a rush, it’s an object. Love and happiness are your soul, it is finding joy in every single day and learning to love your self, and know that you alone are enough.
  3. So with the cleansing of my home… now that I am slowly getting there I realise I need to speed things up, why? Because as I cleanse things from my life, it opens up more space in my life to welcome abundance and more amazing opportunities, and these opportunities are incredible, fun, and I don’t want to be wasting time on dusting, cleaning, folding and tidying items that bring me no joy. This does not benefit me, my husband, my dreams and the incredible things I could be spending time doing.

So… take a look around!! Let go, It’s freeing! Melody xx

Dandelion

26/4/2015

Dandelion, yes, the weed!
This pesky little plant is a powerhouse of health, can be used in food and herbal medicine and can grow pretty much any where. Just make sure it is a healthy plant, that is not carrying any pesticides or nasties, otherwise opt for an organic dried alternative.

You can eat Dandelion leaves, roots and flowers. They have a slightly bitter flavour but can be less bitter if picked during autumn or spring. Cooking can remove some of the bitterness, but they are also beautiful raw in salads, or add them to a smoothie in place of kale.

Dandelion contains more protein than spinach, is a very rich source of beta-carotene which we convert into Vitamin A. It is also rich in fiber, vitamin C, Iron, potassium, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium and zinc. It also contains vitamin D, organic sodium, all your B complex vitamins and trace minerals.
This plant is pretty much a complete multi-vitamin in itself.

For centuries is has been used to treat skin problems, scurvy, anaemia, blood disorders and depression.
Dandelions health benefits go far and wide, it is a:

Digestive Aid – Dandelion acts as a mild laxative that promotes digestion, stimulates appetite, and balances the natural and beneficial bacteria in the intestines.

Kidney – This weed-like superfood is a diuretic that helps the kidneys clear out waste, salt, and excess water. This inhibits microbial growth in the urinary system too.

Liver – Dandelion has been shown to improve liver function by removing toxins and reestablishing hydration and electrolyte balance.

Antioxidants – Every part of the dandelion plant is rich in antioxidants that prevent free-radical damage to cells and DNA, slowing down the aging process in our cells.

Cancer – Dandelion acts against cancer to slow its growth and prevent its spread. The leaves are especially rich in the antioxidants and phytonutrients that combat cancer.

Diabetes – Dandelion helps regulate blood sugar and insulin levels.

High Blood Pressure – As a diuretic dandelion increases urination which then lowers blood pressure. The fiber and potassium in dandelion also regulate blood pressure.

Cholesterol – Dandelion has shown to lower and control cholesterol levels.

Gallbladder – Dandelion increases bile production and reduces inflammation to help with gallbladder problems and blockages.

Inflammation – Dandelion contains essential fatty acids and phytonutrients that reduce inflammation throughout the body. This can relieve pain and swelling.

Immune System – Dandelion boosts immune function and fights off microbes and fungi. Dandelion leaves, flowers, and roots are all edible.

Dandelion is generally considered safe in food and medicinal levels. Some people may have allergic reactions to dandelion. Anyone with an allergy to ragweed, chrysanthemum, marigold, chamomile, yarrow, or daisy should avoid dandelion and anyone pregnant, nursing, or taking prescription drugs should talk to a health care professional before adding something new to their diet.

Hygge Organic is a herbal tea brand. Our teas are created to be nurturing and healing for the body.! Hygge is a danish word that means (n) complete absence of anything annoying, taking pleasure from the presence of gentle and soothing things.
The world can get stressful and the body can get exhausted and run down, it is very easy to forget to take the time to nurture and value the simple things in life.
Hygge Organic gives you the chance to take a simple task of drinking tea and turn it into a beautiful m!oment to reconnect and to heal the body.

Hygge Organic was created out a personal desire to learn to cherish and care for myself.
For 5 years I had been fighting Chronic Fatigue and Fibriomailga, it is such a difficult illness, and a lot of the recommendations that had been given to me, had me going from one health professional to another trying to combat so many different symptoms, it was exhausting. For years I would study non stop, bed ridden and determined to find something that worked. All of these searches always end in the same place, food.
“When diet is wrong medicine is of no use. When diet is correct medicine is of no need.” Ayurvedic Proverb
My diet was good though, but there was one area that always seemed to lack, and that was the use of pure herbs and spices, the powerhouse of health. If you were to look solely at just one, for example dandelion, the health benefits are incredible. One plant, considered a weed, is actually a Digestive Aid, a Kidney cleanser, it detoxifies the liver, is an Antioxidant preventing damage to cells and DNA, and slows down ageing. Fights agains Cancer cells, and helps regulate blood sugar and insulin levels for people with Diabetes. Aids in High Blood Pressure and regulates your blood pressure. Lowers Cholesterol and reduces inflammation, relieving pain and swelling, not to mention the amazing benefits it has in boosting the Immune System.
This is what I needed more of and not in artificial forms of supplements, and the best and easiest way I could start were through teas.
The teas have been created by naturopaths and herbalist to give the most benefits. Teas are amazing and have been used for centuries as natural medicine to heal. Such a simple yet powerful thing.

Mind, Body, Spirit and tea allows you to take moment to nurture them all.
